Hi,
I’m stuck at square 1 with my RN-XV module. I have it connected to the USB explorer, but in device manager it’s not recognized in the “Ports (COM & LPT)” section, only in the “Other devices” section.
Any thoughts?

Do you have a bang symbol (yellow exclamation mark) next to it in Other Devices?
Sure do.
It says “FT232R USB” and shows the bang symbol next to the other devices symbol.
That pretty much means that the drivers couldn’t be loaded by your version of windows (either you have the wrong drivers, or you haven’t loaded any of them yet)
Go here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm (These are the Direct type drivers)
On that page is a table showing the various Windows drivers available. Pick the one that matches your architecture of Windows (32 bit or 64 bit).
I actually ordered some parts from sparkfun just today, which includes the USB Explorerer as well, so I’ll likely have to go through the same scenario as you at some point.
