I have recently received my RTK Facet. I am impressed by the amazing accuracy even when it does not receive NTRIP data. The accuracy is under 20 cm. The first problem I want to point out is that when I am connecting the Facet to the computer no usb port is visible (not in device manager and of course not in tera term). I have the drivers for the CH340 installed and I know they are working because I tested them with the breakout board https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15096. I followed the tutorial on the page https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/sp … okup-guide but with no success, nothing is happening. I want to get access to that serial menu so I can change the data type which comes over the data port. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
The second problem is regarding the forum. I have observed a bug when in the password field when some of the characters ~!@#$%^&* are used. It gives a 403 Forbidden message and you cannot enter the forum. After changing the password to not include those characters it worked fine.
That’s odd. I always see the Facet USB devices in the Windows Device Manager when my Facet is connected and powered on (OLED display is showing information.)
Are there any unrecognized devices showing in the Device Manager? Does Windows make the connect/disconnect sound when you plug and unplug the USB cable?
I guess it’s possible you received a unit with a non-functioning USB port. Are any of the other ports working?
I have tried with different usb cables. The cable I am using has also been tested with CH340C. I have tested the usb and the module using the tutorial from https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/sp … okup-guide. I made the test with a cable connected between rx and tx. Technically speaking if the cable works with the CH340C it should also work with the rtk facet, right?
My experience. I recently (Oct 2022) purchased two FACETS RTK GPS devices.
— My 1st Win Laptop (v11) failed to accept/recognize the CH340/341 USB/Serial port. Installing drivers made no difference.
— My 2nd Win Laptop (v11) failed to accept/recognize the CH340/341 USB/Serial port. Installing drivers made no difference.
— My 3rd Win Laptop (v10) failed to accept/recognize the CH340/341 USB/Serial port. Installing drivers made no difference.
— My 4th Win Laptop (v10) successfully accepted/recognized the CH340/341 USB/Serial port without installing the drivers.
My solution is simply to dedicate one of my Win 10 Laptops exclusively for FACET configuration purposes. This seems reasonable considering the value and capabilities of the FACET RTK GPS.
Might later attempt a Virtual Machine Win 10 on a Win 11 computer to see if this will also work.
I suspect that the reason one of my Win 10 Laptops would not recognize the CH340/341 USB/Serial was due to having some incompatible software already installed for Home Automation Projects (Control4). On occasion, installed software incompatibility is still a failure mode with Microsoft operating systems.
Am very pleased that I was able to get Tera Term to communicate with both devices.
Next challenge is to configure for Rover/Base operation.

Thanks for the reply and I am glad that your RTK facet worked. One of the laptops on which I tried to use RTK facet had only the windows 10 installed, tera term, and the drivers for the CH340/41 USB (because I initially also thought that some already installed software would conflict with the drivers and would be the cause of the facet not being recognized…). My RTK Facet version as displayed on the screen is V2.2. My module arrived last week so it is also brand new… Honestly I do not know what else to do…to make it work…
As an update…I have also tried the RTK facet on a LINUX system with ubuntu 20.04 installed. When typing lsusb (with the rtk facet plugged in) it did not show anything. When I connected the breakout board https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15096, on the other hand, the board appeared when I typed lsusb…So I think there might be a chance that I received a RTK Facet with a damaged USB. If anyone else has other ideas that I could try, please let me know…
Another update regarding this issue. I went to a colleague who had a mac and tested the RTK facet there. The problem was the same on the mac. My colleague also had a Sprarkfun red board Artemis, and the red board worked fine. So I do not think it is an issue regarding the drivers, because I tested the Facet on too many computers on which I also tested other boards which had the CH340 chip and the boards worked fine however the Facet was not even recognized when I plugged in the USB.
Continuing on my previous note where two WIn11 computers and one Win 10 computers would not recognize the CH340/341 USB/Serial Facet Device.
I went back to both of the Win 11 laptops that had failed earlier to work with CH340/341 and took the time to A) Update Win 11, B) Open Device Manager, C) Plug in Facet RTK with proper USB-C cable in a Power off condition, and D) Turn on the Facet RTK. On both laptops, the Device Manager then properly updated the configuration and added a “Generic USB Hub.” Tera Term was then able to communicate properly on both of the computers that had previously failed.
I also was able to successfully get Facet RTK to work with four other WIN 10 Laptops and Desktops as evidenced with successful Tera Term sessions.
The one and only computer that I now own that will not work with CH340/341 was one that also had software installed for home automation which relies heavily on specialized and custom configurations in the USB/Serial realm (zig-bee, zwave, Alexa, Siri, Hey Google, Roku, etc.).
With 47 years of working with PCs (starting w/ Altair 8800), and despite the mostly reliable Plug and Play technologies, it remains possible to have a Win 10 or 11 computer that will not work well with the installation of a Facet RTK system because of pre-exiting installed incompatible software, drivers, or configurations on the Win computer.
Deleting incompatible Win applications and configurations before attempting Facet RTK is a possible solution approach.
Getting a ten year old generic Win 10 computer (borrow one from a friend or visit your neighborhood land fill) to dedicate for Facet RTK configurations and data logging may also be a practical alternative . Consider RESTORE to earlier state(s).
This may not solve your connection problem, but it certainly did solve my similar one.
I believe your troubleshooting is correct and something must be wrong with the USB connection itself. Please feel free to start an RMA process (https://www.sparkfun.com/returns) and we’ll have a look and get it fixed.

I’m from Iasi, on the 4th facet, they’re good, I’d even say better than emlid. you can set it from wifi if usb doesn’t work (192.168.4.1), it’s more difficult with ublox firmware
