The Sparkfun Wind Vane I ordered is open circuit. The anemometer I ordered works fine. Because the anemometer was backordered I am just now checking out the wind vane and it is past the 30 days where I could return the product. I opened up the bottom of the wind vane and pulled out the circuit board. Continuity from the board to the connector checks out, but the solder joints on the board indicate open circuit as well. I checked the rotating portion of the vane and can verify there is a magnet in the vane. Any suggestions on how to proceed in fixing this? I ordered one of these four years ago and it has worked flawlessly.
As the wind vane rotates, do you detect a momentary closed circuit?
As the schematic clearly shows, the magnetically activated reed switches are normally open:
If the other wind vane is verified to be behaving/testing differently than the new one:
