serial monitor: no data

Setup:

  • Ubuntu 22.04 fully up to date

  • SparkFun Edge 2

  • SparkFun Serial Basic board with CH340G serial chip

Arduino IDE 2.2.1 connected to device ttyUSB0, baud 6900

The board is brand new, nothing tried, and in default state. Yes/No LEDs not very responsive, but perhaps sometimes?

blue LED bliking.

anyway: there is no data on the serial monitor, tried putty, same.

please advise what might be needed?

Surely this is a basic requirement, before proceeding, or am I wrong?

tx

You might try testing the CH340 by placing a jumper wire between RX and TX. Then anything you send to the USB serial port should echo back in the serial monitor.

This will rule out any communication issues that might be causing you trouble.

yup: rx/tx echo responds as expected.

typo baud 9600

Please could this issue be escalated as I need further technical support?

tx

It seems I cannot upload, so USB/340 is almost certainly the issue.

I believe SVL is not installed when product is shipped, but for completeness

SVL:

Cleared startup blip

Failed to enter bootload phase

Target failed to enter bootload mode. Verify the right COM port is selected and that your board has the SVL bootloader.
