Short Circuit SMD

Hello-

Looking for a little direction with the components I’m soldering to a PCB.

The instructions call for creating a short circuit for the D1 diode. Can someone help with exactly what I should be doing to accomplish this? Not sure how to accomplish this and if I actually need to connect the diode just to short it.

If the diode isn’t installed, leave it out. In any case, take a short piece of bare wire and solder it across the pads (or across the legs of the diode if it is installed)
