Sparkfun XBee Dongle Resets My Laptop!

I plugged this XBee: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11215

into this dongle : https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9819

and then when I plugged the dongle into my laptop it reset my laptop!!!

I’m looking into how there might have been an overcurrent. I tested that when plugged into my USB port, pin 1 on the dongle is ~3.3V w.r.t. pin 10 (GND). These are all brand new parts right out of the red sparkfun box.

Does the laptop reset when plugging in the ‘dongle’ without the XBee installed?

If so there might be a short on the dongle.

Use your Ohmmeter (Resistance scale on your DMM) to check the USB lines on the dongle.
