Sunny Buddy does not Ouput Battery Voltage on Load

Hello!

When I connect my 3.7V 5500 mAh LiPo battery to the Sunny Buddy, I do not see 3.7 V on the load output. Instead, it shows -0.14 V. I know my battery has a charge because it produces a voltage of 3.8 V when it is not connected to the Sunny Buddy.

Any ideas on why I’m not getting any voltage on load?

The load connectors are directly connected to the battery jack so even if the rest of the board disappeared you should still be seeing battery voltage.

I suspect the battery you’re using might have polarity that’s backwards from what the board is expecting make sure the positive wire from the battery connects to the pin in the battery socket that’s closest to the edge of the board.

It appears that the battery I bought has the connector on backwards -_-. I guess that’s what I get for not ordering my battery through SparkFun lol.

Thanks for the help!

I reversed the JST connector, but now I am seeing 0.00 V on the load pins.

What’s confusing is that when I plug the solar panel in, I get 4.11 V on the solar in ports and 2.11 V on the load pins. I only get an output on the load pins if I am getting an input higher than the battery voltage from the solar panel. Once I remove the solar panel from sunlight, I immediately drop back down to 0.00V on the load pins.

I know my battery is charged because I am getting 3.8 V from the battery when I test it with jumper wires.

Any ideas on why this would be?

I found out that the leads inside the connector were not making contact with the leads on the board. I am now seeing the correct voltage.

I’m still very new with electronics and learning all of the nuances.
