Thing Plus ESP32-S3 Component Gets Hot Charging Battery

I just got a Thing Plus ESP32-S3 and I noticed that a 5 pin component below and just to the right of the boot button gets quite hot (cannot hold my finger on it) when the battery is being charged. I don’t thing it;s a bad battery since I’m using a genuine Adafruit battery with the correct pin out and
it runs the board just fine without the USB cable plugged in.
Is it normal for this component to get quite hot when charging a battery?
Thanks for your help.

It certainly can…that is the voltage regulator and how hot it gets it depends on how much work it is having to do to convert the power to usable voltages for the board + battery

It should cool off considerably when not using both usb & lipo simultaneously. Side note: the guide ays th charge rate is 214mA @ 3.3v, make sure that is enough for your battery (I’m guessing it probably isn’t)
