I am unable to set up my AVR-ISP500 on either of my two machines (one is running a 64-bit flavor of Vista, the other is running the Windows 7 RC - also 64-bit). When I plug the device in, Windows recognizes it as “Olimex AVR-ISP500”, but reports that it could not find any drivers. I am unable to install using the drivers from Olimex’s web page.
Has anyone else had this issue, or does anyone know how to solve it?
Check out this link:

there’s a newer driver, that supports 64bits OS.
That link just redirects me back to this thread.

did you follow the user manual Ver - May 2009, wherein it is indicated that the COM port number should be below 4. A method of doing it is also indicated.

That’s not the problem; as I indicated in my initial post, the supplied drivers are not compatible with 64-bit flavors of Windows and Olimex does not supply 64-bit drivers on their website. Changing the COM port won’t help - and indeed is not possible - without a driver installed.
I got it to work by modifying a 64-bit compatible Microchip USB CDC driver INF file, but I forgot to save the URL I found the driver from. If I find it, I’ll post it, though it would be cool if Olimex would post official drivers on their website now that 64-bit deployment is increasing so that others are not similarly inconvenienced.
if you forgot the link, perhaps history search of sites browsed by you could be handy, as you approximately know the date of browse. This is a simple way to look back, not that you don’t know.
Vista/Win7, 64 bit, microprocessor cross-development doesn’t work…
Patient to doctor: “It hurts when I do this”.
Doctor: “Well, don’t do that.”
i.e., use 32 bit operating systems for the time being.
