Uvolt lcd power problems

I’m trying to connect one of these http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ts_id=8428 to an arduino board. I hooked up the vcc to the 5v pin and the gnd to gnd and the lcd would boot, but only intermittently. I’ve connected a 1uf capacitor from vcc to gnd like the specs recommend.

Even when it did boot I wasn’t able to pass any commands. I’m new to this stuff and i’m probably not sending the commands the way the lcd wants them to be, but I can’t figure that part out until I can get the LCD to boot consistently.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

I tried sending a tone command and it played once, even without the lcd showing anything. But then it didn’t play anything else and it was supposed to keep playing the same toner over and over.

Power supply issues? Would this thing be happier at 3v?
