What type of power supply? how much current?

Hi there,

I am thinking of buying a benchtop power supply (see link below). I am not sure how much current rating should I get. I am dealing with development boards, small devices, and one time I did deal with a 24 Volt device. What are the considerations in buying power supplies? Thanks

i think 0-30V 1A would be fine for 99% of most electronics applications.

I find its more useful to have 2 separate budget supplies rather than 1 with all the bells and whistles.

Thanks. I think I was a little impatient. I already got the 0-50V 0-3A.

to save $$$, some people use a PC power supply. A jumper or two and an on/off switch (logic level) and you have several voltages and a lotta amps per dollar.

Google and you’ll see the wiring.

Not variable though, like a bench supply. But the 3.3, 5, and 12V in a PC supply are the most common.

I have done it too. I used that power supply throughout my school year and afterwards. I am working on a project and need 24V. Can not get by that anymore. Thanks

Okay. Many of us use a salvaged PC "Silver brick"

and a cheater cord. You can make it look pretty

(and safer) with a bit of effort. Good luck with your

store-bought one!

EDIT: Sorry Stevech, didn’t see your post before rushing

to type mine. We’re on the same page now!
