Whats the part name? - A pin to make a circuit

This is a real newbie question (since I am one).

I am looking for something similar to a phone connector, like the ones used by operators in the 19th century. Though, all I want it to do is to complete a circuit if the pin is in the socket, much like push button switch if the button is down. When the pin is out of the socket, the circuit is open. I guess the genre would be a “simple on/off switch”.

Does anyone know what the name of this type of switch is? I am attempting to look on the internet to purchase a few dozen.

(Note: I do not want to hack together a switch as I’ve already failed miserably. )

Hello Masterpin,

You could use standard ¼” stereo jacks. Your two wires would solder to the Ring and Sleeve tabs, not the tip. Use Mono ¼” plugs which will contact both connections when plugged in like a SPST switch.

Here are some nice looking knurled plugs if you can wait 2 to 3 weeks for delivery.
