I am a newbie at using SparkFun modules. I want to implement remote data collection. I am considering a couple of DEV-08183 ARM development modules and a couple of Xbee Pro 900 XSC modules.
I assume that I would use the Async SERIAL builtin support in connecting the wireless module to the ARM module.
The ARM module includes a BASIC compiler and that sould be easy to learn. (I am an experienced FORTH programmer; but I can revert to BASIC)
Are the Xbee Pro 900 XSC and the DEV-08183 modules appropriate for experimenting and implementing such a system?

On 900MHz versus 2.4GHz…
what range do you expect? (900MHz is better but 2.4GHz can equal it with gain antennas)
Battery powered? (900MHz take a lot more)
Data transmissions per day? Data volume?
I doubt you need the horsepower of the ARM but go for it if you wish.
Cost? (900MHz is much more $)
Learning more about my clients application suggests that 2.4gHz and 50 mw will do the job. I am inclined to order two series 2.5 transceivers, one development module DEV-08406 and one WRL-09111 serial-to-Xbee module. This should allow me to let the two 2.4 transceivers to communicate.
stevech, Does this sound like the correct approach?
