Me too. I want to launch a SoftAP network but i can’t upgrade firmware. With all previous suggestions, i get “FTP timeout=2”. Any advice?

Do have any idea to connect arduino to the wifi board, arduino acting as a server hosting a web page and possibly I could connect through my iphone. All of this on adhoc mode.

I was having the same issue with updating my firmware. I did a factory RESET and then followed the instructions here http://www.rovingnetworks.com/FAQs/How_ … s_firmware
It worked just fine after the reset. I think it may have had to do with the port number. My wifly was set to port 80, but the reset set it back to port 2000 (default). If you are having issues with updating the firmware, try switching the port. If it still doesn’t work, try the factory RESET. You can still load your saved config files after updating so you won’t lose all of your settings. Don’t forget to do another factory RESET after you update so you can save and load config files.
