Let me just apologize up front as I am not very knoweledgeable about electronics. Hopefully I don’t butcher my question.
I am currently experiencing some theft and vandalism on a remote area of my property that doesn’t have electricity. In order to try and catch whoever is responsible I went out and bought a trail camera (infrared motion detection). The problem with the trail camera is that if someone finds it they can just take it and then I’m without the pictures. In order to protect the pictures I would like transfer them wirelessly to an SD card writer that is hidden nearby. That way if the camera is stolen I still have the pictures.
Would it be possible to rig up an SD card with a connector that interfaces with a wireless transmitter that transfers the SD i/o to the writer (microcontroller?)? If that’s not possible could something like this be custom made from a camera module and various parts?
If there is any information that I left out please let me know and I’ll try to supply it. Thanks in advance.
The short answer is no. You need to camoflage the camera so it will not be discovered. Go to a local sporting goods store and get color camo tape that will match the environment. A buddy did up a game camera with white tape, and I couldn’t pick it out of the birch wood pile it was sitting in. Alternately, a hollow log, or a pile of animal droppings would work but may get a bit messy. A remote transmitting camera is a complicated alternative, but the ease of use just disappeared. Not to mention the battery power required. If there is no cover in the area, set out something innocuous for a week or two. Give the target a chance to check it out and get comfortable with it in the environment, then rig it with the camera. You’d be surprised how well it will work.

Hope this helps,

I’ve made a camo cover for it out of camo netting but the area that it needs to be placed in is part of a mature forest with minimal ground cover. This is why I was hoping to make a wireless receiver for the SD card. I hadn’t thought about a hollowed out log so that might be a possibility.
Does anyone know if the SD communication is compatible with serial communication? My thinking was to maybe use the BlueSMiRF serial modems?
SD is not compatible with serial - you’d have to create a whole lot of circuitry to buffer + send it over the link, not to mention that the latencies involved will probably mess stuff up anyhow.
