I would like to control my (as yet un-built) Zigbee network with a push button remote.
What would be required to build one?
My research has been hampered by the word “remote” meaning many things in the context of Zigbee and Xbee. It doesnt seem to mean “the thing with buttons” in any many cases.
I am a total beginner, so no answer can be too obvious.
If not, will you need to build your own starting with something like this http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9377? These are also made in other button configs but this is the only one SFE sells.
Are you going to use infrared, wifi, bluetooth or RF? What are you controlling. The simplest answer does you no good if we don’t know what you are trying to do.
XBees, while small, are not that small. If you are going to go that route, you will need a different type of enclosure. When you go that route you have to start thinking about what kind of pushbutton you want to use. To make something that doesn’t look like a Frankenstein bashed together breadboard is going to take a lot of effort so help us help you.
Apologies if I come across as vague - to call me a beginner would be a complement.
Thanks the infra-red options, had not thought of that.
But really, my dream is to be outside and still control the house inside.
Happy to work my way to something that can be carried in a pocket. Maybe I should start with the Frankenstein option, a couple of rows of buttons on a breadboard? Then I can work my way to the Betty Booper look, something like this baby http://www.zigbee.org/Products/Certifie … ntrol.aspx
