I am looking to assemble a basic system using GPS-RTK-SMABreakout-ZED-F9P(Quick) boards. This will be a dedicated system for placing fence line and buildings on a rural property with no cellular or internet available. Because of the distances involved, I will need to use the LoRaSerial devices. I am ordering up parts and with all the choices available, I was hoping to get a recommendation for the minimum hardware devices I can use to get the job done. One question is if the F9P can drive a LoRaSerial device directly? If not, what would be the simplest processor and firmware package that could be used? I will be operating the base off the position of a boundary survey pin, so no internet will be used. Thanks
I know you asked about minimal, but I use two Facets for this type of work. Saves a fair bit of fussing with power, antennas, housings, etc.
You might consider putting your base near the middle of the property or the property line to help with the radio range to reach both ends. Also use a high spot with open sky, that’s probably what a surveyor would do.
Thanks for the good ideas. If I had this to do over, I think I would get the Facet L Band. I have already built my base station though, except for connecting a radio and adding blutooth to talk to SWMaps. I would like to add an OLED display also, just to show the coordinates the base thinks it is at (going to run it in fixed mode.) That’s where I get confused with all the choices of of different boards that can be used. There are older boards, Micromod, arduino, etc. I don’t plan to expand this beyond the original purpose, once it is working, so maybe MicroMod would be overkill.
