Tried my facet for the first time today. Got most of the way through the setup, just started picking up satellites when the unit turned off. I assumed it was a dead battery so plugged in to charge. A few hours later, when I tried to turn it on, I got a screen that was all green, then after a maybe 10-15 seconds turned off, I haven’t been to get it to turn on again. I did manage to snap a pic before it turned off.
I bought this unit back in may, but never used it til now, I’m guessing the warranty is over?
Edit: I removed the cover to see if there was anything obvious, didn’t see anything, and didn’t want to poke around any further, reinstalled the cover, and now it seems to work.
Edit #2: OK, seems like there may be an issue with the screen/power button. After connecting to swmaps to make sure it was working, had trouble getting the unit to turn off. Out of curiosity, I tried to turn the unit back on a couple minutes after finally getting it to shut down, and no luck. Just a black screen, won’t boot up.
On further investigation, the led light does not come on when plugged in to charge. It is not showing an open comm port when I plug into my computer. When I remove the cover and press the internal power button, the internal status light will illuminate.for a few seconds before shutting off. Still nothing on the display screen.
I’m not tech savy, just bought this as a low cost way to start plotting some features on my property. Don’t really want to/or capable of much indepth troubleshooting, as I said I’m not too tech savy.
Kinda disappointed as it cost over $1100 CAD (approx $1300 CAD with tax) and never even got 5 minutes out of the unit. Starting to think I should of bought an Emlid.
Had it sitting on my table, gave it a try and it came on with the first press. Grabbed my pole and went outside in my yard to grab a few survey points, worked great for a few minutes, had connected to rtk2go, was achieving approximately 1cm accuracy with rtk fix.
That lasted for all of about 5 minutes. Dropped the rtk fix, but the facet screen was still showing 32 satellites and accuracy of 0.014m. But swmaps was showing approximately 70cm. Brought the unit inside to my basement, but the screen on the facet wouldn’t change, still shows 32/satellites and 0.014m accuracy, and unable to turn the unit off. I believe the screen is frozen, unsure what’s going on with the unit.
I purchased the facet through digikey, as the tariff situation was unpredictable. Am I able to ship this to sparkfun for a repair?
Hi Savage22, welcome! Sorry it had to be under bummer pretenses.
You’ve got a 12 month warranty, but really, we’ll get you fixed up even if you were outside of that and it was an ‘us’ issue which this sounds like it is.
You’ve already got the unit opened up, nice! We have two options: we can ship you repair parts and you can replace the display (docs are here). If replacing the display doesn’t work, then you can ship the unit back to us for warranty repair. Or if you want us to handle the display replacement and do a device checkout, you can return the unit and we can do that. Let me know.
I believe it may be more then just the display. It dropped the rtk fix after a few minutes of use, in an open field near my house where I had both strong WiFi and cell signal. Was unable to get the rtk fix reestablished, even after disconnecting/reconnecting the facet/phone connection, and disconnecting/reconnecting ntrip connection.
I’m not tech savy, so if there are multiple issues I’m not sure I could troubleshoot them.
I think there must be a detailed troubleshooting guideline for this facet. Like the one Robotshop has for their Litter Robot. I hope Sparkfun will give a thought.
Thanks for that. The RMA request asks for an order number.I ordered through digikey due to the uncertainties with the tariffs importing into Canada. Hence, I don’t have a sparkfun order number, Is there a way I can still submit a repair request?
