how to connect LOCOSYS LS20033 GPS to Logomatic v2

Hi!

I’m having problems connecting the LOCOSYS LS20033 gps to the Logomatic v2. I thought I could connect the GND and Data output (TTL level) on the gps to GND and ADC ports on the Logomatic v2 but I only get empty files. Where should I connect it and should I edit the LOGCON.txt?

here’s how the LOGCON.txt looks like:

MODE = 0

ASCII = Y

Baud = 4

Frequency = 10

Trigger Character = $

Text Frame = 100

AD1.3 = N

AD0.3 = N

AD0.2 = N

AD0.1 = N

AD1.2 = N

AD0.4 = N

AD1.7 = N

AD1.6 = N

Saftey On = Y

The gps is connected to an OSD

It works like is should. I’m getting sattelite lock and position. All I want is to logg the position with the Logomatic V2.

Thanks.

You connected the GPS data output to an ADC line ? :roll: :? :lol:

Try connecting it to the TX and RX connection.

Yup, leave the settings as they are.

The Logomatic will save UART data without any further configuration.

Additional, connect your GPS’s Rx and Tx lines to Tx01 and RxI1 on the Logomatic.

And the GPS’s Rx goes to the TX01 and the GPS’s TX goes to the RxI1?

If the baud rate is wrong, will I get garbage in the txt files or will they be empty?

If the baud rate is wrong, will I get garbage in the txt files or will they be empty?

Could be either. But the LS20033 outputs at 9600 baud so BAUD=4 should be correct.[/quote]

Ok. Thsnks:)

I’m still having problems getting the logger to work. here is how I have connected the gps.

Does this look right? the USB LED stays on and the files are still empty.

here’s the PDF manual for the GPS

From that rather blurry picture, it looks like you need to swap your Tx and Rx lines…

I don’t know why your USB link LED is always on though.

Maybe the GPS module is drawing too much power… :?

Hmmm. Does the voltage regulator on the Logomatic have “KB33” on it?

If so you can forget my worries about current consumption.

I switched the tx and rx. No difference. I’ll power the GPS from the OSD since I know that works and then see if I can get this thing to logg some data. do I need to connect GND from the gps or is it enough to just connect Tx and Rx to the logger (when power comes from another source)?

You will need ground on the Logomatic and the power source, be sure to power the GPS with 3.3V only though.

But it really should work as-is. Did you ready the micro-SD as the datasheet says?

Have tried powering the board/ready-ing the card without the GPS connected?

Yes, I have the KB33 chip. I have now formated the card, booted the logger without the gps, the files have been made, connected the gps to the logger and tried again. then switched the tx and rx again and tried one more time. empty files every time.

Not even the config file has content? Do they have the correct file names?

Don’t forget that each time you power the board, you must wait at least ~36 seconds for the GPS to get a lock.

LOGCON.txt has data. The LOGXX.txt files has no data. every time I power up the logger I leave it on for 5 minnutes.

Were they generated automatically? And your sure that Tx on the GPS is connected to Rx01 on the Logomatic and vice-versa?

The files are generated automaticly. tx on the gps goes to RXI1 and rx on the GPS goes to TX01. I’m messuring 3.3V between GND and tx01 and 3.3V between GND and RXI1.

Whoops, little typo in my last post. I meant RXI1… I think you have them connected correctly.

So to me it sounds like you have a faulty board, especially with the USB link LED constantly on…

I have now tested all the different baud rates. Empty files every time:) Thank you for your time FartingMonkey92. I’ll try contacting tech support.
