Photon Redboard not connecting nor updating

I purchased 20 Inventor Kits that have been sent to students home and I am having a lot of difficulty getting to log onto the cloud.

Most of them may have been sitting on the shelf for a while and their original firmware is just not working well with either the phone app, the web app from particle (https://setup.particle.io/?family=photon&device=photon), nor the CLI.

I have been able to get a couple of them to connect and once the firmware is updated to the latest version, they can be put on the cloud and are assigned to my account, but there appears to be no specific method for doing this that works each time.

My concern is that without a specific method that will work with all of the boards, the boards that I sent out to students are going to be a nightmare to configure via remote learning.

Also, students are using all types of platforms: IOS, Windows and Chromebooks

I’m just hoping this is not a lost cause…I’ve been troubleshooting for hours here
