possibly defective NEO-M9N

Hi;

I have a NEO-M9N hooked up to a serial port on a raspberry pi.

I have the ground plane (circular saw blade) under the magnetic antenna.

I have setup the port so that it runs in raw mode

stty -F /dev/ttySC1 raw

and I do see packets coming from the port but no PPS or real SAT data,

I have tried the antenna in a few places and an both on 3.3v and 5V power supplies.

cat /dev/ttySC1

Do you think a have a defective device? Is this common?

thanks…

Vinnie

Hi, do you see any improvement if you use the GPS module outdoor?

none - my testing was outdoors in open space.

Could be a bad antenna, if you have a different GPS unit, try the antenna on that to rule out the antenna. If it’s not the antenna, contact SFE and they should be able to help with a replacement.

I guess I am not having much luck with the RMA… I posted on the forum, I sent in an RMA, and I got a form letter telling me to post on the forum. I know that I get bad parts every now and then from Sparkfun, but this is starting to look like very poor customer support. I guess I can eat the cost of the device ($75) but it makes me cautious about continuing to do biz with Sparkfun…

CUSTOMER SUPPORT please read this and try and address the problem,

Vintherwrench, we were not aware that you had already posted on the forums here as you did not provide a link to the forum post in your original RMA request. My apologies for giving you the run around here.

We will get you taken care of. I have your case in my inbox.

Cheers.

I really appreciate that. I knew you folks rocked, still a big fan,
