RedPine Modules

Has anyone here worked with any of the RedPine Signals WiFi boards? I found an eval board at a electronics shop that was an open-box, with just the board. I’ve downloaded some documentation from the RedPine website, but I can’t seem to get anything more than a product brief. The board is:

There’s do description of the connectors, jumpers, headers, etc. And apparently RedPine requires a “contact number” to get a login. Since this is a one-off board, I don’t even know how to get that information.

And pointers or tips would be appreciated.

$38 for a WiFi radio with serial/SPI for a micro is a lower price than I’ve seen so far.

Interesting.

Requires “reference frequency” - used by radio. Might mean a high quality 10MHz oscillator; doesn’t say.

That they want the buyer to sign an NDA to receive the module is most unappealing. NDAs can be abused and some corporations refuse to risk the liability - because they usually specify damages and remedies for fuzzy information exchanges. Contact Number is probably just a phone # for whomever is authorized to sign the NDA. Vendor wants to protect their proprietary info, but overburdens the buyer. I usually tell vendors no thanks if an NDA is needed - but this is an OEM module.

That aside, I’d like to try a module - skip the eval board.

A little risky, both, for longevity of the company.
