SparkFun Pressure Sensor Breakout - MS5803-14BA will it work in a complete enclosure?

Hi,

I have SparkFun Pressure Sensor Breakout - MS5803-14BA, and I want to place it in a humid environment to measure barometric pressure. I assume the breakout board is not waterproof (there is no conformal coating on it!).

So, if I want to protect it from water/humidity I can put it in an enclosure, but my question is, do I need to put complete breakout board in an enclosure? Or I need to keep the sensor ring (circular metallic ring with white gel in it) outside of the enclosure?

if I keep whole breakout board in a case/enclosure will it sill sense the pressure?

Hi latpate.aniket92,

You do not want to completely enclose the sensor. If you do, the sensor will only be returning the pressure of the enclosed space, not the air. The MS5803 is designed to be sealed for outdoor use with an O-ring around the protective cap. The [datasheet goes into this a bit more in the “Mounting and Assembly Considerations” section on page 16.
