SparkFun Surveyor serial ports not connecting to Windows 11 laptop

I am trying to setup my Sparkfun surveyor as a RTK base and pass corrections through a SNIP lite NTRIP caster on my Dell Latitude 5450 laptop with Windows 11 OS to a DJI drone with RTK module.

I am unable to establish a serial connection from the config ports on the surveyor to my computer via usb. No serial port is established under ports or sensors in Device Manager when connected via USB. I have installed the CH340 driver according to the Sparkfun instructions and I have checked my cable and it is not faulty, I am able to use the same cable to connect my phone to my computer and the connection is displayed in Device Manager. I have also tried this with multiple other cables.

I am also unable to maintain a Bluetooth connection to the Surveyor with my laptop. It will connect but then immediately drop the connection and never reconnect without removing it as a previously connected device. It will open two serial com ports (com4 and com5) as serial over bluetooth in Device Manager for the surveyor but no data flows because the bluetooth connection is absent.

I have altered the Bluetooth settings of the Surveyor from SPP to BLE and the surveyor will connect to SWmaps on my iPhone following the instructions in the Sparkfun RTK Product Manual.

I would appreciate any help you can provide!

Is this a recent issue? When did you get the device vs when the symptoms began?

I received the device around the beginning of December but it has been sitting on my desk and I haven’t been able to work with it until the last few weeks. I have been troubleshooting it on my own but it has never worked properly. A few days after I posted this topic, I uninstalled the serial ports the Surveyor created in Device Manager and reinstalled them and I was able to connect it via bluetooth and pass data to my mountpoint in SNIP with it in Rover mode. I tried to use it again yesterday and this morning and it no longer remains connected again, even with uninstalling serial ports and reconnecting the device.

I’d recommend either re-flashing the firmware and see how it behaves after or sending the unit in for repair - let me know if you attempt it and how it gets on, or if you’d like to send it in

I’d like to send it in for repair. I attempted reflashing the firmware OTA but it would get stuck in the checking firmware version step. It is running v4.2 firmware. I didn’t read the instructions thoroughly enough and switched the wifi settings from AP to WiFi, and am now effectively locked out of the device completely :upside_down_face:

Sorry for the hassle! Start a return here. Once received, we should be able to turn it around in a few days. We’ll get it checked out and make sure everything is working.
