I have tried to update to v3.8 using RTKUploader GUI v1.5.2 on W10pro PC. No success.
I have also tried using the firmware update menu in serial configuration mode. The Facet finds the WiFi, connects, and realizes that v3.8 is available. But selecting update doesn’t achieve an update - the Facet restarts in v3.7.
I successfully updated one of my Facets from 3.6 to 3.8 yesterday with the RTKUploader. It failed the first time because I chose the wrong COM port.
I also updated my two other Facets to 3.8, but I put the firmware on the SD card and used the serial menu to upgrade. I like this technique best; least error prone for me.
Tony is correct about the OTA bug. It should be fixed from here on out.
How is the GUI failing? Can you post any images of the output?
Be sure the unit is on, the correct COM port has been selected (it’s the CH340 in the list of COM ports), and nothing else is using that COM port (no teraterm or other terminal program).
Thank you for the tips, toeknee, and for checking in, sparky.
I started to try toeknee’s suggestion of updating directly from the SD card. So I downloaded a fresh copy of the .bin from github for the card. When I went to insert the SD card into the facet, it slipped between the SD card slot and the case, falling into the interior. I don’t have a small phillips bit long enough to take the case apart tonight.
But wanting to get the Facet updated, I decided to try the GUI again. Then I noticed that the file I downloaded tonight is not the same size as the one one I tried to update with earlier. Used the GUI with the fresh download, all good now. Bad .bin download was causing the problem.
Shoot! Sorry for the lost SD card. PM me your address or an order # and I’ll get you a mini screwdriver (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9146) so that you can get your SD back.
