Raspberry 5 Development Kit - SD card not detected

New Purchase last week. Using Pi power supply.

Only two LEDs light on the PI5 when you plug in power supply. Power Supply LED is red for a few seconds then turns off. Status LED is solid Green. Power ON device shows diagnostics on screen. Power Supply detected at 5000mA.

SD: card not detected. (says the on-screen diagnostic)

OS does not boot. No LED near SD card slot. Or, maybe that’s just for SSDs.

Tried re-imaging the card. Using Raspberry PI Imager on MacOS. ScanDisk microSD card ultra Plus 64GB. The Mac OS will read the SD Card. Raspberry 5 will not.

Tried re-imaging for a Raspberry 2. SC card works in a Raspberry 2. I think the Card is okay.

Back to the PI 5
Tried re-imaging for Raspberry PI 5 with Armbian OS. Same story: SD card not detected.

What do I try next? RMA for a replacement?

Yea it sounds like a bad board; was it purchased from us? If so head over to Returns (contact vendor if purchased elsewhere) and we’ll get ya squared away

Not sure what to try next. Sparkfun sent a new kit. It has the same issues. I purchased a Raspberry Pi branded SD card. Works in Raspberry 3 but not in the 5. I purchase a Raspberry SSD. Do these come preloaded with the OS? Nevertheless, the 5 doesn’t see it either.

It should come pre-loaded, but you can always flash it to be certain

What setup are you using? Are you using HDMI to s screen? Have you seen any activity?

Yes. the only connections on the Pi 5 is power and HDMI to a HDMI monitor. The screeen shows some hardware info: Board, boot, SD: Card Not Detected, part, etc. Then, it appears to be running through trying to find an OS.
Failed to open ‘nvme’
Boot mode: USB-MSD …
USB-MSD stopped…
Boot mode: NETWORK…
Boot mode NVME
NVME on 0
Trying partition 0
Unable to read partition as FAT…

Remove the SSD to start…it’ll mess things up until the OS is expecting one

Did you get the Pi SD card form Pi? There are a bunch of fakes running around :-/ I really like the Sandisk Extreme ones, I might go one of those a try as well

Yes. With the exception of the first Sandisk Sd card, everything has been purchased from Sparkfun. Did Raspberry Pi just made a ton of bad boards? I’m on #2.

No, and their QC is generally top tier as well… that’s why I’m thinking something else might be up

Can you try a different imager to flash the card? Also, if possible, attempt it from a PC instead of Mac yo rule out any weirdness that may be there?
