Hi, everyone. I seem to have a continuing issue trying to get my Torch into wifi connect mode. I’ll touch the power button twice, it beeps, and I get the slow brightening/dimming blink that it’s in wifi connect mode. However, it almost never broadcasts it’s SSID, and I’ve even tried directly connecting by manually entering the SSID on different devices, but it doesn’t work (I really don’t think the wifi is functioning).
If I connect via serial and reset the unit, when I fire it back up then it broadcasts its SSID perfectly every time and I can connect via wifi and the web app. However, after a time or two it completely stops working. I’ve tried putting it into wifi connect mode 20-30 times in a row and it just doesn’t do it.
So - in summary - the wifi on the unit does work, but only for a time or two after I do a reset on the unit. After that, it just doesn’t seem to work no matter how many times I put it into connect mode, power cycle the unit, etc. Only resetting the unit makes it functional again. Also, the only settings I change are the SSID and passwords for the devices I’ll have it connect to. As for firmware, I recently updated to v2.3. However, it was doing this same thing on v2.1 and is continuing to do it on v2.3.
Has anyone had this issue before? Is there anything I can do to help resolve it? I did get everything set up to connect via serial using putty, and it works just fine, but it’s not as easy (or as clear) as the web app. Thanks!
Welcome JonathanEngr! Sorry for the hassle. The Web Config interface should be stable but we have had issues in the past. We are currently working on further changes on the release candidate that will change things significantly, hopefully for the better, as well.
v2.3 is certainly the most stable. What phone are you using? What browser? We’ll try to replicate. At the same time, we hope to have a release candidate soon that should bring improvements as well.
Hi, I’ve been unsuccessful getting the Torch into the RTK Config wifi. I was successful initially, but only twice, and not in several months. I’ve resorted to a usb cable and a terminal app to access the settings.
Thanks for the replies! I did finally have some luck after digging a bit deeper.
I had noticed that my wifi AP began working again for a bit after updating the firmware, so I dropped back a version and then updated again. Sometimes it worked, most times it didn’t. Then I saw a small note about the serial firmware update utility (RTK Firmware Uploader) that allows you to “Erase Flash”, basically making a clean slate of the internal memory. It’s under the “Extras” tab. It doesn’t look like a button or dropdown menu of any kind, but if you click it a dropdown menu appears. I chose “Erase Flash” and then reinstalled the firmware, and it’s worked perfectly ever since. Wifi, bluetooth, everything. I wanted to post it here in case someone was having the same problem. Maybe it will work for you, too.
