I purchased a WIG-18159 Tsunami Super WAV Trigger recently and it doesn’t seem to be working as expected. No LEDs turn on or any indication the board is functional.
I powered it through the USB C connector on the WAV Trigger board, and connected to my Windows computer USB port, and nothing happens. No LED’s turn on, or any indication that it powers on. I would have expected to see some LED’s turn on indicating that it powered up ok. Also, the computer showed no indication that anything got connected to the USB port. I did format the SD card, for the WAV Trigger board, to FAT16 or FAT32 file system format as required.
I’ve tried another USB cable and a different USB port on the computer, with no results. (The USB cables and computer I used, do work on other items.)
After working with customer service, I received a second Super WAV Trigger, and have the exact same results.
In searching the forums, I saw that someone else had a similar issue with the WAV Trigger, and was able to correct the problem with the following:
Press and hold the User button, then press and release the Reset button.
I’ve tried this several times with no results. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Are you working with SparkFun customer service or did you purchase it somewhere else?
The USB connection is for power only, so your computer will not indicate any connection. I suggest you try an alternate power source, such as a USB charging adapter.
The most basic way to see if you your Tsunami is functioning at all is to see if the bootloader will run. Remove any microSD card and plug a 5V USB charger into the USB connector. Press and HOLD the “User” button and then press and release the “Reset” button (keep the “User” button pressed until after you release the “Reset” button.) In a few seconds, the Blue LED should blink slowly. This is the bootloader complaining that there’s no microSD card. If this doesn’t work, then your Tsunami is either defective or has no bootloader.
I purchased it from SparkFun and worked with SparkFun customer service.
i tried it with an alternate power source (5 Volt USB charger), and using the Reset and User buttons, as you described, and no results. Tried it with the microSD card both un-installed and installed.
Hi gregoryp, Sorry you’re having trouble with this product. Can you measure the voltage with a DMM at the “3V3” header pin? This would help verify that your boards are being powered properly from your USB Charger and USB-C cable. If you can verify 3V3, then you’re boards might not be programed properly with the bootloader. If you don’t see 3V3, then it could be your power supply and/or the USB-C connector solder joints. Let us know and thanks.
So, I am pretty sure your board was just missing firmware. It most likely was revived. I just mismanaged this case and failed to ship you a replacement in the meantime.
My apologies there.
We have your replacement order created. I will PM you directly with this information.
